Springtime brings with it a number of holidays and events. Each year, Colorado residents gather to celebrate at a variety of festivals, parties, and parades. For many, this celebration also includes a drink or two. Colorado law enforcement has issued a reminder that they will be out in force looking for those who have celebrated a little too much and are possibly in violation of DUI/DUID/DWAI laws.
During the recent St. Patrick’s Day weekend, 88 different law enforcement agencies teamed up in an effort to reduce the number of drunk drivers on the roadways. For many, alcohol is a part of the celebration. However, police want individuals to keep safety in mind and make sure that they have arranged for a designated driver prior to indulging in the festivities.
The fact of the matter is, though, some individuals may misjudge the amount that has consumed and incorrectly decide that they are okay to drive home. In other instances, one may be accused of DUI/DUID/DWAI even though he or she has not reached the legal limit. In both of these instances, the accused individual will suddenly discover the need for a strong defense.
Charges of DUI/DUID/DWAI in Colorado are taken seriously. In addition to the increase in insurance premiums, one who is found guilty of such charges can expect fines in excess of $13,000. Then, if such an individual is involved in an accident where someone is injured or killed, the consequences become even more serious. While the best defense is to simply not drink and drive, when one is facing such charges, he or she will want an experienced defense team reviewing the evidence and representing him or her throughout the process.
