One man in Colorado has been charged with driving under the influence. The DUI/DUID/DWAI charges stem from a vehicle accident that occurred on a recent Sunday night. The man, however, is presumed innocent unless his charges are proved in court.

The accident took place at about 10:45 p.m. Police reported that speed was a causal factor in the collision. One witness said it appeared as though the two cars that were involved in this collision had been racing through an intersection when the wreck occurred.

Eight people ended up suffering injuries and going to a medical center as a result of the crash. One injured victim reportedly did not have on a safety belt at the time of the crash. Five victims are said to have suffered injuries deemed serious, while two are in critical condition. The man who has been charged with DUI in connection with the accident had already been charged with vehicular assault in the wreck. Authorities continued to investigate the crash.

If appropriate for the circumstances surrounding the individual facing DUI/DUID/DWAI, defense counsel might explore the possibility of plea bargaining with the prosecution. A plea deal might offer the advantage of a reduced sentence for the defendant compared with what might result following a guilty verdict after a trial. Every person facing drunken driving charges also has the right to go straight to trial, thus forcing prosecutors to prove the allegations via evidence that meets the strict requirements of Colorado’s criminal justice system.
