When people are accused of drinking and driving, they may naturally be humiliated and concerned about the repercussions of the drunk driving charges filed against them. If DUI/DUID/DWAI charges turn into convictions, they may easily face time behind bars as well as fines. One person in Colorado was recently arrested on DUI charges after reportedly causing an accident.

The accident took place shortly before 12:30 a.m. Police said utility personnel were called to the scene after a person who was allegedly drunk collided with a building and ended up rupturing a gas line. Both utilities workers and firefighters worked together to turn the gas off following the accident.

The person who was reportedly driving the car was arrested on drunk driving charges. He also faces other charges related to traffic infractions. The driver was not injured, and there were no reports of other injuries resulting from the crash.

When people are charged with DUI/DUID/DWAI in Colorado, they have the right to proceed to trial to vigorously fight the allegations. If they are given the chance to strike a plea deal with prosecutors, however, they may choose to do this instead. A plea agreement might offer the benefit of a sentence that is lighter than what would be imposed following a guilty finding at trial. Whether an accused person goes to trial or plea bargains with the prosecution, the criminal defense counsel will strive to protect the individual’s legal rights at every step of the criminal proceeding while pursuing a result that is in the client’s best interests.
