One man is currently facing charges of driving under the influence in Colorado. His criminal DUI charges stem from an accident police say he caused. The vehicle crash took place on a recent Monday morning.

The collision occurred at 3:45 a.m. Police said a man, 20, was driving an automobile with two other individuals inside. All of a sudden, he left the roadway. The driver ended up striking a pine tree and crashing into a brick home.

One man reported that both he and his grandson were sleeping in a bedroom in the home when the car crashed through the room’s wall. Neither the man nor his grandson were seriously hurt, although the grandfather did receive some scrapes and cuts from the collision; he was taken to a medical center as a precaution. The man who reportedly caused the crash is now facing charges not only of DUI but also of assault in the third degree, careless driving leading to injury, reckless endangerment and reckless driving. Police continue to investigate the accident.

A person accused of DUI in Colorado may decide to proceed directly to trial to vigorously fight the charges filed against him or her. However, he or she may be given the opportunity to strike a plea deal with prosecutors. A plea agreement might offer the benefit of reduced charges and/or a lighter sentence that is more favorable for the accused. The criminal defense will push for an outcome that is ultimately in the accused individual’s best interests.
