Accidents can happen in the blink of an eye. For example, a person can slam on his or her breaks, making it difficult for other drivers to respond in time to avoid a collision. Unfortunately, a woman in Colorado has recently been charged with vehicular assault and vehicular homicide after a crash resulted in one fatality and injuries to two people.
The incident reportedly occurred in the early morning hours of a day in July. Police believe that a vehicle operated by a 25-year-old woman struck a vehicle driven by a 66-year-old man. Both of the vehicles reportedly left the road as a result of the collision. The male driver passed away. Reports indicate that the woman told police that she noticed brake lights just before the collision.
A passenger in each of the vehicles reportedly suffered broken bones. Police claim they noticed “track marks” on the surviving driver’s arm and that her pupils were dilated. She was also suffering from mood swings, according to police accounts. They claim they discovered drugs and drug paraphernalia at the scene, and test results indicated she had several drugs in her system.
The woman has since been charged with two counts of vehicular assault and one count of vehicular homicide as a result of the Colorado accident. If convicted, the consequences could be severe. As a result, she may need legal guidance to ensure that she is able to make informed decisions about the direction of her case. Often, having advice from an experienced professional can help those facing such serious charges have confidence in the choices they must make during the criminal process.
