Colorado driver suspected of DUI following crash

When driving at night, it can be easy to miss a traffic signal or sign, especially for those unfamiliar with the area or when the area is not well-lit. Unfortunately, even with other reasons and circumstances explaining the crash, police may still conclude from their investigation and observations that drugs or alcohol played a role in accident.  This is more likely if the accident happened late at night.  Every day in Colorado, drivers are charged with alocohol and drug-related traffic offenses.

Reports indicate that this particular crash happened during the early morning hours of a day in mid-September. Police claim that a 60-year-old driver did not stop at a stop sign. As a result, the car reportedly veered off the road at an intersection. The car is said to have stopped after striking an embankment and a barbed wire fence.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured. However, a 46-year-old male passenger was not wearing a safety belt and suffered injuries that reports describe as serious. Police suspect that the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.  All criminal defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty, either by plea or conviction, of the crimes they stand accused.

Unfortunately, the criminal justice system often involves complicated proceedings laden with unfarmilar terminology that move quickly.  Unrepresented persons are held to the same standards as those represented by counsel. Persons charged with a  DUI who are not lawyers legal training or experience will most often not know how to proceed in a manner most likeiy to help them achieve the best possible result. Therefore they should be represented by a criminal defense attorney who can help them understand the risks and benefits of their decisions in court, and give them the answers and explanation they need to make informed decisions regarding the path their case will follow, including whether to fight charges in court or try to negotiate a plea deal. Such guidance can eliminate costly mistakes that signifcantly hurt criminal defendant’s cases, and at a minimum help reduce some of the stress that those in Colorado facing criminal charges experience.
